Why a bathrobe?
Wearing a bathrobe in public makes you stand out. And that's what we aim for: attracting attention, showing public solidarity, not leaving people with dementia alone. You and your relatives don't need pity, but confidence that politics and society are standing up for you.
The bathrobe serves as a visible sign of solidarity. It inevitably incites viewers to deal with the issue and, in the best case, to support research. Almost everyone owns a bathrobe, and it's easy to take part because everyone can choose the place where they want to be photographed in a bathrobe.
How do I take part in the #bademantelchallenge?

Take an unforgettable bathrobe selfie / video of yourself in an unusual place (e.g. bus stop, supermarket, school, office, forest - anything goes, the main thing is to be “unforgettable”).

Alzheimer's disease: the facts
Alzheimer's disease is the world's most common dementia and has no cure. Those affected lose their spatial and temporal orientation, their language and memory skills. In the later stages of the disease, they are dependent on help from others and in need of care. But even young people are affected more than they realize.
Not only can they get ill themselves in rare cases, they also face a major challenge in our aging society. According to projections, increasing life expectancy means that 139 million people worldwide will be affected by Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia by 2050.
No wonder, considering that every three seconds a person develops dementia. Thus, it has never been more relevant to advance research on Alzheimer's and others dementias.
Alzheimer's disease: the facts
Alzheimer's disease is the world's häufigste Demenzerkrankung und nicht heilbar. Aber even young people are affected more than they realize.
Nicht nur können sie in seltenen Fällen selbst erkranken, sie stehen auch einer großen Herausforderung in unserer älter werdenden Gesellschaft gegenüber. Denn durch die steigende Lebenserwartung wird nach den Hochrechnungen davon ausgegangen, dass im 139 million people worldwide will be affected by Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia by 2050.
No wonder, considering that every three seconds a person develops dementia. Es war nie wichtiger, die Alzheimer- und Demenzforschung entsprechend voranzutreiben.
Alzheimer's is not curable
So far, there is no cure for Alzheimer's, only the progression of the disease can be slowed down with medication. Researchers are working hard to change this.
